Repo: https://lnkd.in/djgccZi8 I am floored by the reception I got for "The Negotiator" emergency power supply card. Some people have already sent photos using it, I love that! Here's that post, if you havent seen it: https://lnkd.in/dbTybcf4 I created this footprint after thinking "this must exist", and while I found multiple similar footprints, they werent quite right.
Some didnt follow the dimensions in the spec, others took unfavorable DFM compromises due to PCB routing, making the footprint easily manufacturable but without good connector support. That's why I added those dogbone reliefs which in practice did allow the connector to be well supported against side to side motion. I also added silkscreen to the area of the connector with ground contacts.
While those are unlikely to make contact with the PCB due to their position, this adds an additional layer of protection against short circuits. Want a really supported connector (for up and down motion)? Just add 0.3mm thick metal on either side, where the silkscreen is. The repo has a CC0 license and includes KiCAD and EasyEDA footprints for 10 and 14 pin versions.
The 10 pin version is seen on the picture below and is a power only connector, while the 14 pin version includes USB 2.0. Make sure to use a 0.6 mm thick PCB and not to use this for a heavily used port. I'd love to see what you make with this!
